To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you as your constituent to urge you to support the renewal of strip club licenses at the hearing this week.

These clubs provide much needed work for women in the city and also support the Bristol economy overall. Many women who work in these clubs have impressed their right to work and not to be forced out of work for the opinions of other groups. Changes have been imposed upon these clubs with little to no consideration for these women in the past.

The argument to close strip clubs had been made redundant as it is. The evidence put forward in 2003 from the Camden report demonstrating a "strong correlation between sexual assault and the presence of a strip club" has been debunked several times, including by Dr. Brooke Magnanti in her novel The Sex Myth, published in 2012.

Several sex worker led organisations are calling for more sensible licenses that are put together with the co-operation and collaboration of the women who are employed in the industry, including the Bristol Sex Workers Collective, The English Collective of Prostitutes, and the East London Strippers Collective. It is the right of every person living or working in Bristol, or any city in the United Kingdom, to be given fair hearing where it concerns their welfare, lifestyle and employment.

This would go some way to decreasing the stigma for these groups and ensuring that these women's health and safety is put before the conjectures of some groups.

Regards,
